Tour Plan

Arrival in Kathmandu (1400m/4600ft)

You will already have booked a flight to Nepal for this day. By this time, we will have communicated clearly and completely about your flight details. Our representative from Mercy Holidays will receive you at the airport. He will be carrying our placard and wearing our T-shirt. You will then be escorted to the hotel. In the evening, we will organize an orientation meeting to discuss how the entire trip will go.

Kathmandu sightseeing and Trek Preparation

After breakfast in the morning, you will be taken by vehicle to Pashupatinath, a Hindu cremation site, and then to Bouddhanath. We will then return to our hotel for lunch. The remaining part of the day will be used to brief you of the trek.

Flight to Lukla (2800m/9186ft), Trek to Phakding (2650m/8694ft) [40 minutes flight and 3-4 hour trek]

We will take a morning flight to Lukla. The 35 minutes flight is an exhilarating experience, with beautiful glimpses of the Himalayan range and equally a terrific experience that will give you goosebumps. We will meet our assistant guides and porters at Lukla airport. After a short tea break, we will start our trek to Phakding. Lunch will be taken mid-way. To many people’s surprise, Phakding is actually at a lower altitude than Lukla airport. Thus, we will descend a total of 150 in altitudes during this trek. We will spend the night in Phakding.

Trek to Namche Bazar (3440m/11286ft) approx 6-7 hour

After an early breakfast, we will commence our trek to Namche Bazaar. After a brisk trek to a place called Manju, we will enter Sagarmatha National Park. Expect to cross a lot of suspension bridges. The trail is also skirted by colorful Rhododendron and fir vegetation. After lunch on the journey, we will get to a photogenic place called High Bridge/ Hillary Bridge. The view of a suspension bridge passing over another is amazing. This place is also a confluence of two major rivers Imja Khola and Dudh Koshi. A steep hike will bring us to Top Dada. If the weather is good, you might catch the first glimpse of Mt. Everest from this hill. After a gentle, we will finally reach Namche Bazaar.

Hike to Everest views hotel [approx walk 5/6hours] and trek to Kyangjoma

Today, we will go to the Everest View Hotel after breakfast. It is a three-hour hike to the place. After we reach the Syanboche strip, the trail is slightly steeper. Located at an altitude of 3800m, Everest View Point is a perfect place to observe the scenery. You can spend 30 to 45 minutes observing the crystal clear view while sipping tea or coffee. The noticeable peaks seen here are Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Amadablam, and Island Peak. We then descend for about 25 to 30 minutes and reach an equally beautiful village called Khumjung. You will be led to visit Hillary School and Hillary Hospital. Both of them are sustained by the Hillary Trust. Some may choose to provide a donation at both places. We will then visit the Khumjung Monastery where you can see an alleged Yeti skull at a small fee. After a short descent, we will reach Kyangjoma where the night will be spent.

Trek to Tengboche Monastery (3860m/12664) [approx walks 6- 7 hours

Our Hotel is located in close vicinity of the Tengboche Monastery. If we take the left side of the trail, we will hit the way to Gokyo Lake. if you take the right, you will rejoin the trail to Everest base camp. We will take the latter trail. The trail slowly descends downwards. We will reach the settlement after crossing a river. after an upward trek through the beautiful rhododendron forest, we will reach Tengboche in about two and a half hours. lunch will be taken in Tengboche. After lunch, we will go for an acclimatization walk. We will then return back to our hotel at Tengboche. you can then observe the chanting ceremony in the monastery. We will spend the night in Tengboche.

Trek to Dingboche (4410m/14468ft) [approx walk 6-7 hours]

Our journey starts with a gentle walk through a forest. it will take around half an hour to reach Debuche. after crossing a river we will take a gentle steep Hike to reach Pangboche. Pangboche Is an older and bigger village in the region. The best part about this place is the glorious view of Mt. Amadablam which directly towers overhead. After the tea break, we will continue a gradual upward journey where We stop for lunch. This place is known by the Somare. From here, the treeline ends. We will again take a gentle upward journey. After reaching a confluence, we will reach Dingboche after a short trek. We will stay the night in Dingboche.

On acclimatization day, Hit Nangkar Tshang Peak (5100m/16732) approx walk 4 hours

We will head to conquer Nangkar Tshang Peak After an early morning breakfast. this is an optional part of the trek, we suggest you participate in this one because it will be easier to acclimatize to the surrounding in the days to come. You should carry water bottles to hydrate yourself throughout the trek. 5 to 6 liters of fluid is recommended per day. Moreover, you should be extra careful to not knock off rocks and boulders on the trail because this might injure the trekkers below you. after a gradual trek that takes around 4 hours, you will finally reach the top. Needless to say, the view from the top is fascinating. we will then descend to our hotel at around midday.

Trek to Chhukhung (4730m/14665ft), Optional hike to Chhukhung Ri (5550m/18208) [approx walks 8-10 hours]

We will start the joining after breakfast in Chhukung. we will reach our destination at lunchtime. this is the trail to island peak (it takes 2 days from here to hit the peak.) After lunch, we will continue an optional activity To reach Chukkung Ri. It is a completely Uphill journey of 3 to 4 hours. Chukkung Ri Is very similar to Kala Pathar in the sense that it is also a rocky peak. Although you cannot see Everest from here the view is made fantastic by other peaks like Imja Tse, Ama Dablam, Makalu, Nuptse, and many more. this place is so popular because of the scenery seen from here. there are numerous peaks above 6000m that are yet to be named. We will then return to our hotel and spend the night at Chukkung.

Trek to Lobuche (4910m/16108ft) by crossing Kongma-La Pass (5535m/18159ft) [approx walks 8-10 hours]

The journey starts after breakfast. there are no restaurants on the way, we will have to carry our own lunch. it is a 6 to 7 hours uphill trek. after you reach the middle part of the trail, the Trek becomes even more difficult. while reaching the Summit it is even harder. 30 minutes before reaching the Summit you will see a crystal clear Alpine lake. You will see the magnificent Labuche peak and the settlement from the top. the way downhill is pretty much like the way up with the trail covered by rocks and boulders. After descending for about 40 minutes, we will stop to eat the packed lunch that we brought with us. We will then descend a long way before we reach a moraine. We will walk on top of the moraine, literally to reach Lobuche. This can be a pretty challenging time for some trekkers, hence this entire trek from the high passes is called a technical/ difficult trek.

Trek to Gorakshep(5140m/16863ft) Excursion to Everest Base Camp (5365m/17601ft) [approx walk 7-9 hours]

This is the big day of the trek since we will reach Everest base camp today. Our trek starts early in the morning at 4 or 5. it will take around 4 hours to reach Gorakshep. We will stop for tea and lunch. It will take around 4 hours from here to reach the base camp. the path is undulating and not so difficult. however, the altitude might pose a problem for some. Hitting the base camp is an emotional and special moment for all the trekkers. The excitement is sheer and motivation is high. Prepare to take a lot of pictures. You might spend around half an hour in the base camp clicking pictures. Some might also want to put prayer flags and have a spiritual moment here. the trek back to Gorakshep takes around 2 hours. The night will be spent here.

Trek to Dzongla (4830m/15846ft), Optional Trek to Kalapatthar (5545m/18192) [approx walk 7-8 hours

Our trek starts at 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning. We will take an inclined and snaky trail that will take us to Kala Pathar. Note that Everest itself is not seen from the Everest base camp. however, the view of Everest from Kala Pathar is magnificent. Kala Patthar, Which means BlackRock in Nepali, is simply a form of Rock. Although nothing special, it provides the most close-up view of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Changtse Among other peaks. The Nepali cabinet has held a Cabinet meeting at Kala Pathar as a response to climate change. We Will then descend to Gorakshep for breakfast. After this, we will then descend further down to you Labuche. After lunch in Labuche, we will take the trail that leads us to Dingboche. but Midway on the trail, we will turn right and take a different route to reach Dzongla. Tonight will be spent here

Trek to Thanagnag Kharka (4765m/15633ft) via crossing Cho-La Pass (5380m/17650ft) [approx walk 8 hours]

After early morning breakfast, we will continue our trek to reach Thagnak. The pass that connects the village Dzongla to Thaknak is called Cho La Pass. Climbing to Cho La is made difficult by boulders and a crevasse at the top. There are numerous prayer flags at the top of the pass. We will then gradually reach the Ngozumpa glacier, the longest glacier in Nepal. The descent after Cho La pass is pretty steep so you have to be conscious. The trekking trail is like a rollercoaster ride, only with added obstacles and difficult terrain. A series of such highs and lows finally brings us down to Thangnak. This marks the end of our journey for today.

Trek to Gokyo lake (4790m/15715) [approx walk 3 hours]

This has to be one of the most beautiful days of the entire trek. We will walk on top of a moraine. The trail is not very steep. After a minor climb at the end, we will see Gokyo Lake and the Gokyo hamlet from the height of our place. The Gokyo Lake System is the highest freshwater lake system take is a collection of six lakes. The popular Gokyo Lake that is just beside us is the third lake in the series. This is a sacred lake for both the Hindus and Buddhists. Numerous alpine birds from different parts of the world migrate here. Since the tradition holds that harming living creatures at this place is unholy, the existing fauna diversity has greatly been preserved. After descending down to Gokyo, we will take lunch at one of the hotels. The entire day will be spent exploring the lake or going on short treks around. Or you may simply stay at the hotel and do your laundry.

Rest day and hike to Gokyo Ri (5357m/17575ft) [approx walk 5-6 hours]

It takes around three to four hours to reach Gokyo Ri after we start the trek. Some might even claim that the all-around view of the mountain peaks from Gokyo Ri is the best in the Khumbu region. You will especially see a clear view of Mt. Everest, Mt. Cho Oyu, Makalu, and Lhotse. After being satiated with the scenery, we will return to Gokyo for lunch. You can rest and relax for the rest of the day.

Trek to Lungdhen (4380m/14370) via crossing Renjo-La Pass (5360m/17585ft) [approx walk 8 hours]

Since the altitude of Renjo-La Pass is the same as that of Gokyo Ri, we have already acclimatized yesterday for this journey. You will carry a packed lunch today as well. Unlike other passes, this is a comparatively easier pass since the trail is well-paved with stone slabs. We will descend after crossing this pass and reach a place where a small lake is noticeable. A sort of picnic is organized and we will enjoy our self-carried meal. The descent continues and we will cross the meadowlands. Finally, we will arrive at our place of stay at Lungdhen.

Trek to Namche Bazar (3440m/11286ft) [approx walk 7-9 hours]

After a series of days of trekking in the high passes, we will now enter the treeline and the lowlands. This day is significantly easier than the previous days of trekking amidst the high passes. An energizing breakfast in the morning brings us to Thame. This is an interesting village that is adept at climbing Mt. Everest. It is difficult to find a household that has not conquered the peaks. We will then follow a peaceful jungle trekking to reach Namche Bazaar.

Trek to Lukla (2860m/9383ft) approx walk 7-9 hours

The day starts at approximately 8 a.m. We will stop for lunch at Manju. The trail that brings us down to Lukla is the same one we used to climb upwards in the earlier part of the trekking. We will have a thanksgiving and celebration ceremony in the evening with our assistant guides and porters. They won’t be coming to Kathmandu with us. Although your days in Nepal are not over yet, this day should mark the end of a long and challenging course over the Himalayas.

Flight to Kathmandu

We will take a flight to Kathmandu which is as exhilarating as the last time we landed on Lukla. You will then be escorted to the hotel in Kathmandu. While some might want to roam around in the evening and buy souvenirs to take back, some choose to stay at the hotel and take a deserving rest.

Free Exploration day

Since this was a long and tiring journey, you surely deserve an extra day of exploration in the cultural city of Kathmandu. This day is allocated to account for flight delays and cancellations due to changes in the itinerary. If you have to stay back anyway, why not make the best use of it?

Our Mercy Holidays representative will be happy to bid you farewell at the airport with as much warmth and hospitality as the first time you landed. Note: This is a both-way orientation trek. In short, you can choose to either complete the trek in the clockwise or anticlockwise direction. Clockwise Trail: Khongmala-EBC-Chola Pass-Gokyo Lake-Renjo Pass-Namche AntiClockwise trail: Namche-Renjo Pass-Gokyo-Chola Pass-EBC-Khonmala-Dingboche-Namche
