Panch (Five) Pokhari (Lakes) is one of the pilgrimage sites in Nepal, and the trek to this holistic and scenic place takes about 5 days. The expedition of 5 Days Trek to Panch Pokhari consists of driving, and trekking through the forest, along the rocky path with scenic views of the lush hills, floras & faunas, waterfalls, and mountain ranges.

We start our journey from the capital and drive towards Bhotang Village (1,800 meters). The initial section of the road is fine, but as we get closer to the village, the offroad starts. However, we get a scenic view of the lush hills, mountain ranges, and the flowing river. Here we have plenty of options to choose from to accommodate for the night.

The next day, we have breakfast and head towards Nasimpati (3,600 meters). The path gradually ascends until we reach Tuppi Danda (2,320 meters). Here we take a break and have some food. We then continue the same path. There are no tea shops or local shops along the path. Therefore, we have to carry the necessary items in our backpacks.

After 4 to 5 hours, of trekking through the forest, along the waterfall, we finally reach Nasimpati. We will accommodate you here for the night.

The next day, we head towards our destination. Within 3 hours of the trek, we will reach Panch Pokhari (4,100 meters). For the rest of the day, we enjoy the panoramic views of the lakes, lush hills, and the mountain range. For the night, we will be accommodated in one of the lodges here.

The next day, we will have breakfast and then descend to Bhotang Village, where we will stay overnight. And, the next day we head towards the capital via a local bus.

Best Time for 5 Days Trek To Panch Pokhari

The Spring and Autumn seasons are considered the best season for this trek. During these seasons, there is less chance of precipitation. Moreover, the sunlight is also not intense with few cloudy moments giving us a clear view.

It is possible to do this trek during the winter season as well. However, we have to be prepared to deal with cold breeze air, and snow during most of the days in this journey.

Difficulty Level of 5 Days Trek To Panch Pokhari

The Panch Pokhari trek is considered to be moderate in terms of difficulty. However, certain sections in the trail might challenge us. Overall, we can easily complete this trek without having a problem.

However, there might be a case where we might have to camp as we proceed to higher altitudes. Also, when we trek from Tuppi Danda to Nasimpati, we don’t see any shops or much of settlements. Therefore, we need to prepare ourselves beforehand and carry the necessary items.

Moreover, we won’t face much of a difficult situation during the spring and autumn seasons. But if we trek during the winter, monsoon, and summer seasons, then we might have to face some geographical challenges.

Lodging and Fooding Services in Trek

Talking about the accommodation, along the trail, we find tea shops and lodges where we can stay overnight. They come with basic amenities and foods included in the package. The hospitality from the locals is warm and welcoming for us to easily pass by the night.

In addition, the tea shops and lodges offer a variety of local foods with most common being Dal Bhat. Some of the lodges also cater to some Western foods. However, the local foods are enough to erase our hunger and restore the necessary energy required on the trek the following day.

    1. Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu (1,400 meters) to Bhotang Village (1,800 meters)

      Our journey to Panch Pokhari (4,100 meters) starts from the capital. Having breakfast in the early morning we head towards Bhotang Village (1,800 meters). We can either reach via a local bus or private jeep. Bhotang is 71.7 km from Kathmandu and would take about 6 to 7 hours.

      We drive along the hillside, through the Melamchi Bazaar, across the Indrawati River and finally reach Bhotang Village. We reach the village along the bumpy roads, listening to the songs played by the driver and enjoying the view of the lush hill and the flowing river with small villages.

      Bhotang is a small village mostly of the Tamang community. The lifestyle of the locals is pretty simple. Therefore, the tea shops and the lodges also come with basic amenities for staying overnight.

    2. Day 2: Trek from Bhotang Village (1,800 meters) to Nasimpati (3,600 meters)

      Today we have a lot of distance to cover. Therefore, we wake up early, have breakfast, and head towards Nasimpati (3,600 meters).

      During the first few hours of the trek, the path gradually ascends till we reach Tuppi Danda (2320 meters). Here we have a short break and rest for a while. Moving further from here, we won’t see any local shops or tea shops until we reach Nasimpati. Therefore, carrying necessary items like food, water, or any other items is important.

      From Tuppin Danda, the trail is comparatively better as the stones are evenly carved with a gradual ascend. It takes around 4 to 5 hours to reach Nasimpati. Walking through the forest, along waterfalls, and enjoying the scenic views, we will finally reach Nasimpati.

      There are plenty of lodges and tea shops for staying overnight.

    3. Day 3: Trek from Nasimpati (3,600 meters) to Panch Pokhari Lakes (4,100 meters)

      Finally on 5 days trek of Panch Pokhari, today we reach our destination. In the early morning, we can witness the best view of the Panch Pokhari Lakes (4,100 meters). Therefore, we head towards Panch Pokhari as soon as we can in the morning.

      Walking along the rocky terrain in the morning with a chill breeze of air, we get a different kind of energy. We finally reach our destination after 3 hours of walking on the rocky trail.

      We get a panoramic view of Dorje Lakpa (6966m), Gaurishankar (7134m), Jugal Himal Range, Ganesh Himal Range, Rolwaling Himal Range, and Langtang Himal Range from the top point of Panch Pokhari.

      Panch Pokhari consists of 5 lakes of different sizes which are close to each other. The view of the lakes along with lush hills on the farside gives us a picturesque view. There are few lodges to stay overnight. Hence, for the rest of the day, we enjoy the views, create memorable moments, and have local food.

    4. Day 4: Trek down to Bhotang Village (1,800 meters)
    5. Day 5: Drive from Bhotang Village (1,800 meters) to Kathmandu (1,400 meters)

      This is the last of the 5-day trek to Panch Pokhari. Having breakfast in the morning, we prepare to head towards the capital. The drive takes about 6 to 7 hours to reach.

      Driving along the Melamchi Bazaar, watching the views of the lush hills and flowing river stream, along the windy road, we finally reach Kathmandu (1,400 meters) and escort you to the hotel. Moreover, in the evening, you can stroll around the alley, visit a few places, and explore the capital.
