On the first day, you will be heading toward Dhunche(2030 m) located on the north side of the capital Kathmandu. The drive normally takes from 6 to 7 hours as it is around 120 km far from Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you will see the locals’ vibrant Tamang Culture, historical sites, and scenic views of lush hills. You will be accomodating here for a night.

The next day you will be trekking for 6 to 7 hours towards a small village Chandanwari(3200m). The trail to reach this village can be quite challenging for the trekkers, as the trail mostly consists of steep hikes. You will be enjoying and resting here for the night.

Tomorrow morning you will be heading towards the highest point of this trek Gosaikunda Lake(4380 m). In addition, mesmerizing scenic views from here will make you forget the long steep trails of the expedition. You will enjoy the rest exploring the surroundings and creating some of the best moments of this expedition. You will also be accomodating here for the night.

Now you will be heading down towards Dhunche along the same trail where you will be resting for a night. And the next day you will drive back to Kathmandu completing your 5-Day Gosaikunda Lake Trek.

Best Time for 5 Days Gosaikunda Lake Trek

Like any other trek in the Langtang Region, the Spring and Autumn seasons are considered more favorable for the trekkers. The sky is clear and the weather is perfect, giving you a heavenly view throughout the expedition.

The months of March, April, and May are the Spring seasons. During the early start of the spring season, the flowers start blooming. The leaves begin to sprout in multiple plants and trees. The vibrant color of the floras in the middle and near the end of the spring season makes your expedition more beautiful to trek.

Similarly, the months of September, October, and November are the Autumn seasons. During this season, the flora changes color and starts falling off from the branches. This creates a soft layer of carpet on the trail of your expedition. Furthermore, the clear sky makes the journey more pleasing to the eyes.

Difficulty Level of 5 Days Gosaikunda Lake Trek

The journey to Gosaikunda Lake is steep along with easy sections. You have to reach Dhunche(2030 m) within 1 day & Gosaikunda Lake(4380 m) onwards within 2 days of the trek. Further, you will trek down to Dhunche in a day and return to the capital the next day. Considering this, the overall expedition is considered to be moderately difficult for the trekkers.

Although one should be in a good physical state for this trek. However, your overall stamina, the food you have during the expedition, and the amount of rest can also play a crucial role in this journey.

    1. Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche

      On the first day of this exciting journey, you will be heading towards Dhunche(2330 m) from Kathmandu via a bus. Normally, it takes around 6 to 7 hours to reach Dhunche as it is around 120 km from the capital.

      You will be driving on Pasang Lhamu Highway (H12) to reach Dhunche. Along the way, you will encounter multiple lush hills, river streams, and some settlements. When you are near Dhunche you will also get a magical view of snow-capped mountain ranges.

      Dhunche is a part of Gosaikunda Rural Municipality. It is also the administrative seat of Rasuwa District in Bagmati Zone, Nepal. Normally, it is known as the starting point for the Gosaikunda Trek and the gateway for multiple other treks.

      Enjoy the local food and culture with the locals and the scenic view from the village. You will be accommodating here for the night.

    2. Day 2: Trekking from Dhunche to Chandanwari Village

      The next day, early in the morning you will have your breakfast and get ready to trek toward Chandanwari(3200 m). It would take normally around 6 to 7 hours to reach Chandanwari.

      The trek begins with a walk across the local village house and then to rivers by the jungle. After some time, the first ascent starts that will lead you to Deurali(2300 m). Here you will find multiple hotels and tea shops where you can take a break and enjoy the scenic view of the lush hills.

      Furthermore, you will trek for another 3 hours across beautiful stream lets and cascades to reach Dhimsa(2900 m). As you proceed, further in the trek across beautiful pine forest, you will encounter a slight ascend on the path. In addition, you have to hike an uphill section which is a bit steep. This will lead you to Chandanwari(3200m), which if you see looks like located at the lap of the pine forest. It is also known as Sing Gompa.

      This village is located within Langtang National Park and is known for the yak cheese factory, Buddhist monastery, and scenic views.

      You will be exploring the village having some local yak cheese, exploring the monastery, and trying the local foods. Alongside, for a night you will be accommodating here.

    3. Day 3: Trekking from Chandanwari Village to Gosaikunda Lake

      The next day, you will have your breakfast early in the morning and head towards your destination Gosaikunda Lake (4380 m). The journey is going to be a bit more challenging compared to other days. Moreover, you will have to walk through narrow and rugged trails. The trail will also get more steeper uphill than before to reach Gosaikunda Lake.

      As you ascend to reach Gosaikunda Lake, the temperature will also start to increase. A cold breeze can also affect your health if you are not warm enough. So, prepare yourself beforehand for this type of situation.

      After trekking for a couple of hours you will reach Cholangpaty (3500 m). The view of snow-capped mountains like Langtang Ri, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, etc will start to look closer and more clearer.

      Further ascending uphill for about 2 hours, you will reach Lauribinayak(3900m). It is especially known for its pilgrimage destination and offers you exciting traditional culture with scenic views of mountain ranges.

      Again after trekking for 2 more hours roughly, you will reach Shakyamuni temple. This temple holds values for both Hindu and Buddhist religions. As you move ahead you will encounter Saraswati Kunda(Lake) and then further ahead Bhairav Kunda. Finally, after some time you will reach the mighty Gosaikunda Lake.

      After the steep uphill climb and walking for hours, you will enjoy the rest of the day exploring the lakes with the scenic views of the mountains. You will be accommodating here for the night.

    4. Day 4: Trekking from Gosaikunda Lake to Dhunche

      The next morning, enjoying the sunrise from your lodge and after having some breakfast, you will further explore the nearby surroundings. Then, you will start to prepare to descend.

      This is the last day of your trekking, so don’t forget to enjoy the trail as much as you can. During the descent from the lake, you will get to see some of the beautiful mountain ranges along the trail. Also, you will get another chance to revisit your favorite cheese factory and the local tea shops. We will also get a chance to see multiple flora and fauna in the Langtang Region.

      After trekking roughly for 7 to 8 hours you will reach Dhunche where you will be accommodating for the night.

    5. Day 5: Drive back to Kathmandu from Dhunche

      The next morning, you will be having breakfast enjoying the view and the local community in the village and their culture. Then, you will get ready to drive back to Kathmandu. Along the way, you will enjoy the scenic route with the Trishuli River and the lush hills while remembering the beautiful moments that you created during this expedition.
