The Trek To Badimalika is quite adventurous as the trail offers a picturesque view of the small settlement with the mountain ranges. This journey offers one of the best views of the landscape of the far-western region, also the cultural aspects that we get to experience make this trek more complete.

One major attraction of this trek is Badimalika Temple (4,200 meters), located at the hillock. Moreover, the views of the Api and Saipal mountain ranges on this journey are astounding.

During the occasion of Janai Purnima and Ganga Dashara, we will see many devotees coming from different places going to the temple as it holds a significant value to the community. The difficulties along the trail don’t stop the devotees from reaching the temple to seek the blessing from the goddess and with a hope to fulfill their wishes.

A combination of a thrilling trail with a religious composition makes the journey fulfilling. Flying from Kathmandu to Dhangadi and driving towards Dadeldhura on the first day, we get to experience a few historical places with a view on the way.

Continuing the journey, trekking for multiple days, walking along the riverside, crossing bridges, and small settlements, with uphill and downhill sections, we reach Badimalika on the 5th day. Since there are no lodges and tea houses, we set up our own tent and make the food. The next day we explored the hill and Dhawalpur Lake. After that day we retrace our way back to Dhangadhi and finally fly back to the capital.

Best Time for Trek To Badimalika

Trek to Badimalika can be done in any season of the year. However, it is recommended to do this journey, especially in the Autumn season and Spring seasons.

During the Autumn season, the sky is clear with few clouds, also the weather is not that harsh with slight warmth during the daytime. During the night time, the weather is chill with a little cold air breeze. We also get a clear view of the mountain ranges, and hills with a beautiful landscape.

Similarly, in the Spring season, the flowers start to blossom, and the weather is also clear with moderate temperatures. This makes the journey more fulfilling and is an excellent time for trekking. Also, in the Khatptad National Park, we get to view multiple floras and faunas that will please our eyes in a peaceful environment.

In addition, we can also do this trek in the Summer and Winter seasons. But, the weather conditions in these seasons are quite harsh. Also, we won’t be getting much of views during these seasons.

Difficulty Level of Trek To Badimalika

The difficulty level of this trek is considered moderately challenging. Anyone with a good physical health condition can complete this trek easily.

Even though there are a few difficult sections with rocky uneven terrains during the trial, one must be able to complete the trial without having much difficulty.

One of the major factors affecting the difficulty of the journey is the season. Depending on the season, the trail can be easier or a bit difficult. In the summer and winter seasons, the weather is quite harsh, also the trail gets a bit difficult, leading to a bit hard time during the trail.

Lodging and Fooding Services in Trek

Along the trail, there are multiple tea shops and lodges in which we can accommodate for the night. There will be some places where we might have to rest in a camp or tent. However, you won’t have to set it up from the beginning. It will be made ready instantly upon our arrival.

Talking about the food during the trek, most of the places do offer a basic meal which is enough to get us going. A few of the shops offer additional beverages and a few Western foods.

    1. Day 1: Flight from Kathmandu (1,400 meters) to Dhangadhi (110 meters) and drive to Dadeldhura (1,800 meters)

      Our first step on the hike starts with a flight from Kathmandu (1,400 meters) to Dhangadhi (110 meters), which takes approximately 2 hours. From Dhangadhi, we’ll drive to Dadeldhura (1,800 meters), around 4-5 hours away.

      Along the way, we’ll pass through local villages and landscapes. The main tourist attractions in Dadeldhura are the famous Ugratara temple and historical places like Amargadhi Fort and Alital. We can also enjoy stunning views of the Api and Saipal mountains. We’ll stay overnight there.

    2. Day 2: Drive from Dadeldhura (1,800 meters) to Jadanga (3,820 meters)

      On the second day of our journey, we’ll drive from Dadeldhura (1,800 meters)to Jadanga (3,820 meters). First of all, we’ll wake up early in the morning. After breakfast and explore of the valley we’ll begin our drive to Sanfe of Achham which is 4 hours away.

      While driving on the trail to Sanfe, we can see mind-blowing views of the mountain range. We’ll take the road which passes along the Budhi Gandaki River. Driving after 3-4 hours from Sanfe we’ll reach Jadanga. It is a small village with few teashops. We’ll stay overnight in Jadanga.

    3. Day 3: On the second day of our journey, we’ll drive from Dadeldhura (1,800 meters)to Jadanga (3,820 meters). First of all, we’ll wake up early in the morning. After breakfast and explore of the valley we’ll begin our drive to Sanfe of Achham which is 4 hours away. While driving on the trail to Sanfe, we can see mind-blowing views of the mountain range. We’ll take the road which passes along the Budhi Gandaki River. Driving after 3-4 hours from Sanfe we’ll reach Jadanga. It is a small village with few teashops. We’ll stay overnight in Jadanga.

      We’ll start our day with a beautiful sunrise and enjoy the serene surroundings. After briefly exploring Jadanga Hill, we’ll begin our hike to Budha Krodh (2,700 meters).

      Budha Krodh features attractive landscapes, waterfalls, forests, and murmuring streams. The place is home to wildlife, including a range of flora and fauna. The place has local farms, which keep buffaloes, adding charm to this area. After a 3-4 hour hike, we’ll reach Budha Krodh, where we’ll stay the night.

    4. Day 4: From Budha Krodh (2,700 meters) to Triveni (3,870 meters)

      On the fourth day of the trek, we’ll start our journey early in the morning to reach Triveni (3,870 meters). It is the longest trail trek. To reach Triveni we’ll pass through Bhoti village (3800 meters).

      The trail passes through dense forest. After walking for 3 hours, we’ll arrive at Bhoti village. We’ll rest there and walk to the Triveni. Along the way, We’ll see big grasslands, waterfalls, and gently flowing streams following the way.

      After an additional  4 hours of walking, we’ll reach Triveni. It is a place of great religious importance. During the festival like Janai Purnima, the area is filled with thousands of tents. People take holy baths in nearby rivers in the morning. We’ll spend the night in Triveni.

    5. Day 5: Trek from Triveni (3,870 meters) to Badimalika (4,200 meters)

      We’ll finally reach the destination on the fifth day of our trek. We’ll hike to the base of Badhimalika. The journey from Triveni to Badimalika (4,200 meters)promises to be Adventurous.

      Badhimalika is one of the major temples of Nepal, and there is a myth connected to it. Triveni sits at an altitude of about 3,870 meters, offering breathtaking views. The trail takes us through the forest, where we spot a variety of birds.

      After hiking for 4-5 hours, we’ll arrive at Badimalika. From this point, we’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Badimalika temple and the Triveni River far below. We’ll stay overnight at the base of Badimalika.

    6. Day 6: Exploring the Hill and Trek to Dhawalpur Lake (2,556 meters)

      In the early morning, we can see the breathtaking sight of the Api and Saipal mountains shimmering in the morning sun. We’ll climb the hill. From the top of the Badimalika hills, it feels as if we’re standing at the pinnacle of the world, above the clouds.

      To experience and preserve the local culture, we can take a bath in the nearby river before visiting the temple. If you prefer, you can head straight to the temple. Pilgrims strongly believe that Goddess Badimalika grants their wishes. We’ll explore Badimalika temple and hike to Dhawalpur lake. We’ll make camp there for an overnight stay.

    7. Day 7: Trek from Dhawalpur Lake (2,556 meters) to Lamagadh (2,195 meters)

      On the 7th day of trekking, we’ll explore Dhawalpur Lake (2,556 meters) for certain hours.  It is a stunning lake in a dense forest. After exploring the lake, we’ll begin our hike to Lamagadh.

      The trek will take around 3 hours leading us to the famous Natyashwori Temple. It is believed that one must visit the Natyashwori temple after visiting Badhimalika.

      From Natyashwori temple, it is a short 30-minute hike to the Lamagadh hill (2,195 meters). We’ll conclude our daily hike and stay there overnight at Lamagadh. In the evening, we’ll enjoy the beautiful sunset from the hill and enjoy different landmarks in Bajura.

    8. Day 8: Trek From Lamagadh (2,195 meters) to Mahendra Nagar (229 meters)

      We’ll wake up early in the morning and start our 8th day of hike, hiking from Lamagadh to Mahendra Nagar (229 meters). Our route will take us through Silgadhi(1,008 meters), with mostly downhill trail.

      Along the way, we’ll pass by the confluence of the Budhiganga and Malagadh rivers. It is a scenic spot that attracts many tourists. In Sligadhi, travelers can visit the Shalieshwori Temple, which Hindus regard.

      After enjoying breakfast in Silgadh, we’ll continue to Dadeldhura for lunch before reaching Mahendra Nagar for the Night.

    9. Day 9: Returning to Dhangadhi (110 meters)

      In the morning, we’ll explore Mahendra Nagar, the second-largest city in the Sudurpaschim Pradesh, Nepal. From there we’ll head directly to Dhangadhi (110 meters). The hike from Mahendra Nagar to Dhangadhi will be both interesting and enjoyable. Along the way, we can see various types of agriculture. The hike will take 3-4 hours and we’ll spend the night in Dhangadhi.

    10. Day 10: Flight back to Kathmandu (1,400 meters)

      It is the last day of our hike. We’ll take a flight from Dhangadhi to Kathmandu (1,400 meters)enjoying the mountain view along the flight. After reaching Kathmandu, we’ll have a small farewell program to mark the end of our memorable Badhimalika Trek.
